Full Attention

How often do you afford others your full attention? We are all so busy trying to do so
many things at once, we rarely give full, uninterrupted attention to anything, or anyone.
How many times have you sat down to have dinner with a friend and place your cell
phone on the table, JUST in case that all important call or text comes in? With very few
exceptions, when we do this, we are telling our friend they are not as important as the
person behind the call or text that MIGHT come in. How often are you reading, or
watching TV, or cooking, or cleaning, or on your computer when your child comes to
you to tell you about their day or ask you a question? When that happens, do you close
the book, turn off the TV, place the pot on simmer, stop the vacuum cleaner, or shut
down your computer? Or, do you tell them to “hang on a minute”, or I’ll talk to you
about that when I’m finished”, or act like you’re listening, all the while still trying to
concentrate on what you were doing?

When your spouse wants to talk with you about the day they’ve had, or troubles at work,
or really nothing specific, they just want your time, do you give them the attention they
are seeking?

One thing is for sure, when we seek God’s attention, He gives it FULLY.

In the book of Isaiah 65:24, we read that He answers before we even call…
“Before they call I will answer; while they are still speaking I will hear.”

Also Jeremiah 29:12 tells us…
“Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.

And finally in Psalm 34:15, 17 we have this…
“The eyes of the LORD are on the righteous, and his ears are attentive to their cry;”
“The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; he delivers them from all their
troubles.”

Remember, we always have One who will give us His undivided attention, 24 hours a
day, 7 days a week. He delights in giving us His attention because He delights when we
call on Him.
