Countenance

Countenance

Definition: “A person’s face or facial expression”.

Your facial expression is an indication of mood, emotion, and character.  It reveals approval or disdain.  It offers hope or despair.  It signals understanding or confusion. It shines light or uncovers darkness.

Your facial expression speaks volumes to those around you.

What truths is your countenance telling?

I have struggled with this my entire existence.  I like to think I’m approving, hopeful, understanding, and full of light.  However, my countenance does not always reflect these attributes.

As a Christ follower, I have to always remember my countenance is my testimony to the world, my story.

I want them to see the light of Jesus on my face regardless of the season of life I find myself in.  This is certainly not always easy.  But honestly, there isn’t much about this life as a Christ follower that is easy.  We wouldn’t need or depend on him if it was easy.

We can call on God for help with any and every part of our lives.  This includes our countenance!  He can help change our facial expressions!  It’s true!

In Genesis 33 & 34 we read the account of Moses seeing the glory of God while receiving the 10 Commandments and his face shown so brightly he had to wear a veil.

Because of Jesus’ death and resurrection, we as believers have the Holy Spirit of God within us.  Take a look at 2 Corinthians 3:17-18 where Paul writes:

7 Now the Lord[a] is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18 And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord,[b] are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another.[c] For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.

You see?  We have the Holy Spirit and are being transformed into the very same image!

We are a reflection of the Glory of God!  That should be our facial expression to the world!

Let us be aware of the testimony we are giving the world via our faces.  Are we reflecting the glory of God?  Are we expressing our transformation into His image?

If not, ask Him to help us do just that.  He will answer!
